The Inheritance

Every avid reader will know this great author.  But you may not have discovered this novel which resurfaced within the past 20 years.  Written in her youth, Inheritance is a simple, but lovely exhibit of a budding literary genius.

An Italian orphan girl, Edith, comes to England to reside with the noble family of Lord Hamilton.  She is described "with an angel's calm and almost holy beauty' and owns a most 'holy and as pure a heart -- gentle, true, and tender'

Well, we all know, bad things must happen to the great, beautiful and kind-hearted (otherwise the book is not quite so enjoyable)!  So read on friends.

Book group idea: Read this along with one of her later works as a comparison.
