Mr. Rusesabagina succinctly
explains
the complex history of his country, his extraordinary rise to chief
manager of the premiere luxury hotel, and details the
precarious and deadly situation during one hundred days of complete
chaos in Rwanda.
Through years of racial
propaganda and sparked by the assassination of
President Juvenal Habyarimana, Rwandan turns neighbor against
neighbor leading to complete and unimaginable genocide.
Between April 6 and July 4,
1994, 800,000 of his countrymen were slaughtered. The author was able to shelter and save the lives of over 1,200
refugees and hotel patrons. "I was doing the job [in which
I had been] entrusted...I am a hotel manager"
This story inspired the film
Hotel Rwanda. So much to learn from the efforts of one
man.
